Marius Istrate

Marius Istrate is the Chairman of the Board at TechAngels Romania, the country’s largest and most experienced network of technology business angel investors, a role he has held since June 2023.

Founded in 2013, TechAngels connects early-stage startups with investors, offering not only funding but also education, acceleration program access, and mentorship opportunities. The group also plays a key role in guiding new business angels as they make their first investments alongside experienced peers.

With over 18 years of experience in the IT industry, Marius has built a strong track record in scaling companies and leading global teams. He served as Chief People Officer at UiPath, where he was instrumental in the company’s rapid expansion from 120 to more than 3,000 employees worldwide. This experience provided him with a deep understanding of talent acquisition, internationalization, leadership development, and the dynamics of global startup growth.

Today, Marius is an active angel investor, with a portfolio of more than 20 startups across diverse sectors. He is deeply involved as a mentor and coach, guiding founders on their journeys to scale.

Known for his optimism about Romania’s potential as a leading tech ecosystem, he highlights the strength of local technical talent, the entrepreneurial drive of founders, and the collaborative spirit of the community.

Under his leadership, TechAngels has set an ambitious vision: to help create 10 unicorns in 10 years. Marius’s mission is to instill boldness and confidence in founders, empowering them to build globally successful companies and cement Romania’s place on the international innovation map.
