Marc Lemaître
Senior Expert DG Research and Innovation
Marc is the director-general for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) at the European Commission, leading EU strategies on scientific research, tech innovation and competitiveness. With 25 years of experience in European Affairs across diplomatic and Commission leadership roles, he shapes policy frameworks that fund and scale European deep-tech and research ecosystems.
Marc began his career in Luxembourg’s diplomatic service, spending a decade at the Permanent Representation of Luxembourg to the EU navigating budgetary and trade negotiations. He joined the European Commission in 2007, serving as head of cabinet for commissioners across regional policy and budget portfolios before taking on executive leadership positions across administrative and regional development Directorates.
Prior to his current role, Marc served as director-general for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO), overseeing key investment instruments across European regions.
